The Poona Game played in Pune during the 1860s is the link that connects the old-style game of battledore and shuttlecock and the present-day game of badminton. Poona Game evolved into the modern form of badminton. In that sense, Pune, called Poona by the British, becomes the rightful birthplace of badminton. The Poona District & Metropolitan Badminton Association (PDMBA) has played a signifi cant role in popularizing the sport in Pune. The 75 years journey of the organisation is the unifi ed story of Pune and badminton.
